A mini medal is an item hidden throughout the Dragon Quest series. They are often found in chests of drawers, treasure chests, and other searchable locations. Collected mini medals can be exchanged for various prizes in the game in which they are found.
Dragon Quest 3 Mini Medals
Mini medals can be brought to King Dominicus in the southernmost island of the world. No version of V has adopted the cumulative system seen in later games, and every prize must be paid for individually.
Cap'n Max Meddlin' collects mini medals in Dragon Quest IX. He can be found in the north east corner of Dourbridge.Prizes are awarded after giving the captain a certain number of mini medals, starting at 4. After the captain is presented with the 80th mini medal, he gives the player a Dragon Robe and the Capn's Curtsy party trick. Afterwards, the player can trade in any number of mini medals for whichever prize they choose. The prizes are listed below

Only found in the Japanese version of the game, they can be obtained by doing the daily quest, randomly by completing quests, and as event rewards. There are two reward lists, one that is permanent and another that changes every few months. In both cases, players can obtain rare materials and cosmetic equipment, such as the outfit of the hero of Dragon Quest Swords. One of the most important mini medal reward is the scroll that unlocks the Brave Knight vocation, a very powerful offensive vocation.
Mini medals can be earned by meeting certain requeriments when finishing quests or from breaking pots and opening chests in quests. Mini medals can be given to King Maximog in exchange for new units, rare materials, and equipment.
Dragon Quest III introduces some features that ended up becoming staples in future games. This is the first of the day and night cycle, where stronger monsters come out at night but more interestingly town activities can differ greatly after the sun goes down. One of the best quality of life features was introduced here and that is the bag which does away with the extremely limited inventory space of the previous entries. Originally this feature was introduced in Dragon Warrior IV (which sadly many people are unaware this was actually on the NES) but in the remake they have included the mini medal collection, where dozens of mini medals are hidden in random spots throughout the world that can be exchanged for rare items.
The Game Boy Color version is based on the Super Famicom version. For the North American release of the Dragon Quest III Game Boy Color remake, Enix decided to give the packaging an anime feel, due to fan demand on Enix's message boards.[31] Both remake versions of Dragon Quest III offer many new features and changes. The game received a new translation, incorporating many adult elements that were cut from its original American release, and becoming the first Game Boy Color RPG with a "Teen" rating.[31] It was also the largest Game Boy Color game released in North America[citation needed], with 32 Mb ROM and 256Kb of save-state SRAM on one cartridge.[32] A new class, the Thief, was added to the roster in each of the remakes. Many of the names of the classes were changed in the English localization of the Game Boy Color version, such as Soldier to Warrior. Also, in the new versions was the ability to change into the Jester class at Dhama, which was not allowed in the original.[3][4][8] New mini-games were added to the remakes, including Pachisi (called Suguroku in Japan / Treasures and Trapdoors as of the Dragon Quest V Remake), which is a giant board game style adventure from which the player can win items.[11] This game is based on Horii's series Itadaki Street.[33] The Mini Medal system, which lets players collect hidden medals to gain new items, seen in later Dragon Quest games (it originated in Dragon Quest IV), was added.[11] Another medal system, Monster Medals, lets players collect medals from fallen enemies, was added in Game Boy Color remake, and two players could trade Monster Medals via a Game Link Cable.[34] Two bonus dungeons become available after the main quest is over. The remakes feature updated graphics.[33] An overhauled introduction for the game was made, similar to the one in the original Dragon Quest III, which included Ortega's battle with the Dragon Queen. Monster and attack animation in battles were added,[13] a feature first introduced in Dragon Quest VI.[35] A personality system was added to the remakes of Dragon Quest III. A pre-game sequence in which the player answers moral dilemmas similar to that in Ultima IV determines the Hero's personality. The personality of the other members of the party is determined by the stat-raising seeds that the player gives them during the character generation process. Personalities determine which stats increase when a character levels up.[36] The personalities may be changed by use of special items and books.
Anyway, collecting mini medals falls into two broad categories in Dragon Quest Builders 2; completing puzzles scattered across the three main story islands and fulfilling challenges on the Isle of Awakening across the three areas.
To be honest, the puzzles are not that much of an issue, mainly because they encompass a third of the mini-medals and are moderately varied. The remaining mini medals are tied to the challenges though and those are really quite tedious.
Anyway, once you have obtained all 90 mini medals you unlock a metal slime sword as well as the other metal slime armor parts (shown above), which is okay I suppose. You also get the ability to remotely destroy and build things, which is arguably more useful.
You can find the mini medals in the field by searching in the grass and bushes, looking under rocks, searching for them in treasure chests. You can trade your mini medals with Minimoggie cat in the bottom right cave of Alvolea. The prizes are magic water-3 medals, Yggdrasil leaf 4-medals, Kitten Claw-15 medals, Poison Needle-20 medals, Gold bar-30 medals, Life Bracer 50-medals, Liquid metal armor 100-medals.
